Robert Geurts is a seasoned criminal defence lawyer with more than 35 years of legal experience in Ontario’s justice system. He began his career as an Assistant Crown Attorney at the Ministry of the Attorney General. Since transitioning into private practice in 2001, Robert has continued to serve clients throughout Toronto and the GTA, providing strong, strategic, and client-focused legal representation.

Today, Robert brings a rare dual perspective to every case, having worked both as a prosecutor and as a defence lawyer. This allows him to identify weaknesses in the Crown’s case and use them to his clients’ advantage. Professional Experience
Extensive Experience in Prosecution & Defence
Robert’s legal career began in the Department of Justice, where he articled in criminal prosecutions, civil litigation, and tax law. He then served for 12 years as an Assistant Crown Attorney at Toronto’s 361 University Avenue courthouse. His work included lead counsel roles in homicide cases, fraud investigations, youth crime coordination, and inquests for unexplained deaths.
Since 2001, Robert has focused exclusively on criminal defence, operating a private practice in Toronto. His firsthand understanding of how the prosecution builds cases allows him to develop highly effective defence strategies for his clients.

In addition to his courtroom work, Robert has spent over two decades educating future legal professionals. He has served as an instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and the Law Society of Ontario, teaching courses in criminal law, business law, administrative law, and Canadian political systems.
